Lashings

Square, diagonal, shear — bind poles into anything.

Lashings bind poles together to build anything from a tripod to a bridge. Three lashings cover most camps.

The three

square bind two poles at right angles
diagonal bind poles that cross at an angle
shear bind poles that splay open — tripods

The rule

Start with a clove hitch, finish with a clove hitch, and wrap tight. The wrapping is the strength; the frapping turns it rigid.
